Blaenavon Workmen’s Hall: Reopening & Dream Horse
As you are probably aware, Blaenavon Workmen’s Hall has been closed for over a year due to Covid and a programme of building works and internal refurbishment. This is due to shortly come to an end, and we will soon be gearing up to reopen.
The Board is currently carrying out tasks towards the reopening – including ensuring Covid-safe procedures are in place – and developing a programme of events and activities for the public from Autumn onwards. We are about to start some public consultation about what people would like to see, which will be done through virtual meetings and public questionaires.
These will be advertised, and all are welcome to get involved.
One event which has been foremost in many people’s minds is the showing of Dream Horse, a film very close to the hearts of the people of Blaenavon for many reasons – not least for the pleasure of spotting locations and people that are familiar to us! Obviously, it was not possible to show Dream Horse at a time when other larger venues were showing it, but on re-opening we intend to show the film as part of a special event. Social media and local discussion has told us that there would be an audience for such an event, and we will endeavour to keep you informed via social media, leaflet and website about when this is likely to happen.
Lastly, as you are probably aware, the Hall is run completely by volunteers who give up many hours of their time to open Blaenavon’s beloved building to the public. We are currently looking to add to the volunteer base to enable us to deliver a wider range of events and activities, and run the cinema without interruption. If you would be interested in becoming a volunteer or finding out more about the volunteer roles, contact us through the email form on this website, by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or by ringing 07894745143 and leaving a message.
We hope to see you at Blaenavon Workmen’s Hall very soon!
